1. Basic Information & Technical Specifications
- Mass Range: GVM over 4.5 tonnes up to 8.0 tonnes.
- Passenger Rule: Seating more than 12 adults (including driver) up to 8.0t GVM.
- Towing Limit: Single trailer with GVM/ATM not exceeding 9.0 tonnes.
- Common Fleet: Isuzu N-Series, Hino 300 Series, Fuso Canter, Toyota Coaster buses.
2. Licensing Requirements & Conditions
- Required Class: Minimum LR (or higher). Minimum 12 months Car (C) licence tenure.
- P2 Probationary Trap: Green P-platers can hold an LR licence but remain subject to 0.00 BAC and zero mobile phone rules. Check for Condition B (Auto/Synchro).
3. Enforcement Options & Roadside Focus
- Car Licence Cowboys (s.18 RSA): Inspect door-jamb compliance plates. If plated >4,500 kg and driven on a Car licence, action for unlicensed driving.
- Fatigue Trigger: Hooking a trailer that pushes total GCM over 12.0t triggers HVNL Work Diary rules (>100km from base).
